367. Guru mudra

Verse 367

சித்தியுள்ள முத்திரைகள் ஆறுக்குந்தான்

சிவாய குருமுத்திரையைச் செப்பக் கேளு

பத்தியுடன் சொல்லுகிறேன் புருவ மத்தில்

பதிவாக இருகரமும் ஒன்றாய்க்கூட்டி

சுத்தமுடன் லாடவெளிக் கண்ணில் நேரே

தொழுது மனம் நினைத்தபடி சுத்தமாக

முத்தியுடன் வரங்கொடுக்க வேணுமென்று

மோனமுடன் மனோன் மணியைப் பூசை பண்ணே

Translation:

For the six mudra that grant siddhi

Listen to me talk about sivaya guru mudra

I will say this with devotion.  In the eyebrows

Join the two hands together

In front of the eye of lalata, space

Praying, with the mind pure,

Requesting to grant boons and mukthi,

Worship manonmani, with silence.

Commentary:

The previous mudra, mohini mudra corresponded to the ajna cakra.  Here Agatthiyar is describing the mudra for the guru cakra.  This mudra expands as the above mentioned six mudras.  The guru mudra is also called Anjali mudra where the two palms are joined together.  This mudra has many great benefits including balancing the right and left hemisphere of the brain.  It is held at the level of the brows and not at the level of the heart or above the head.  These may confer other benefits but Agatthiyar specifies the mudra in this context to be held at the brow level.  The yogin has to pray sincerely with a pure heart and seek boons and mukthi from Manonmani.  The state upto Manonmani and suddha maya occurs through the yogin’s effort.  Beyond this the other superior states are reached by the yogin automatically.

முந்தைய பாடலில் குறிப்பிடப்பட்ட மோகினி முத்திரை ஆக்ஞா சக்கரத்துக்கானது.  இப்பாடலில் அகத்தியர் மேற்கூறிய ஆறு முத்திரைகளுக்கும் காரணமான சிவாய குரு முத்திரையைப் பற்றிக் கூறுகிறார். இந்த முத்திரை ஆக்ஞைக்கு மேலே உள்ள குருசக்கரத்துக்கானது.  இதற்கு ஒரு யோகி இரு கரங்களையும் கூப்பி லலாட வெளிக் கண் எனப்படும் நெற்றிக்கண் இருப்பதாக எண்ணப்படும் இடத்தில் வைத்து, தூய மனத்துடன் மௌனமாக மனோமணித் தாயை எல்லா வரங்களையும் முத்தியையும் அளிக்குமாறு வேண்டுகிறார்.
