295. Prana pratyahara

Verse 295

பாரப்பா இந்திரியந் தன்தன் போக்காய்ப்

பதியைவிட்டு போகாமற் சமாதி தன்னில்

நேரப்பா பூட்டறுத்து நின்றால் மக்காள்

நேர்மையுடன் பிராண னென்ற பிரத்தியாகாரஞ்

சேரப்பா நாடிசுத்தி செய்தபின்பு

சிவசிவா உச்சிமுதற் உருவந் தொட்டு

காரப்பா தோத்திரமுந்  தொக்கு சச்சு

கருவான சுங்குடனே ஆக்கிராணங்காணே

Translation:

See son, the senses going in their own way

Without leaving their locus in Samadhi

If remaining cutting the locks

Truthfully by the prana, then it is prathyahara

Join after performing nadi suddhi

Sivasivaa, from the top in the form,

See son, ears, skin, eyes

The essence, tongue and nose

Commentary:

The senses, ears (srothram), skin (tvak), eyes (kshashu), tongue (jihva) and nose (aagraanam) go their own way in ordinary life.  In Samadhi they are brought under control and their influence is removed  This is made possible after nadi shuddhi and with the help of prana.  Agatthiyar says this is prana prathyahara. 

சாதாரண வாழ்வில் புலன்கள் எனப்படும் காதுகள் (ஸ்ரோத்ரம்), தோல் (த்வக்) கண்கள் (சட்சு), நாக்கு (ஜிஹ்வா) மற்றும் மூக்கு (ஆக்கிராணம்) என்ற ஐந்தும் தத்தம் வழியே போகின்றன.  ஆனால் சமாதியில் அவை உள்முகப்படுத்தப்பட்டு அவற்றின் தாக்கம் ஒழிக்கப்படுகிறது.  இது நாடி சுத்திக்குப் பிறகு பிராணனின் உதவியால் நடைபெறுகிறது.  இதுதான் பிராண பிரத்தியாகாரம் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.
