179. Aham Brahmasmi

Verse 179

தானேதான் தன்மனமே சாக்ஷியாகத்

தன்மையுடன் பூரணமாய் நின்றாயானால்

கோனேதான் தானவனாய் அருளே தங்கும்

குருவான நவக்கிரக சூக்ஷத்தாலே

பூணேநீ பொற்கமலத் துச்சி மீதில்

பூரணமாய் நின்றிலங்கும் போதத்தாலே

நானேதான் நீயெனவே நன்மையாக

நாட்டமுடன் வாசியினால் நயந்து பாரே

Translation:

The self, with its mind as the witness,

If you remain as fully complete

The self is the king, the grace will remain as “self is that”

Due to the subtlty of the nine planets, the guru

You adorn it at the peak of the golden lotus

Due to the bodham which as the fully complete

As “I am You”

See with interest, through vaasi.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar says that one should remain as the poorna or fault-free with his mind as the witness.  This is possible if the influence of the nine planets become beneficial.  The nine planets represent various conscious states.  Hence, Agatthiyar calls them as guru as they remove the darknesss of ignorance and shed light on the soul.  This state is achieved when consciousness reaches the pinnacle of the cakras, at the sahasrara which Agatthiyar calls as the top of the golden lotus.  This may also mean all the cakras as each cakra represents the pinnacle of particular principle, eg, elements, qualities etc.  In this state the soul remains as “aham brahmasmi”.  Agatthiyar is says that this is realized through vaasi.

 அஹம் பிரம்மாஸ்மி என்ற நிலையைப் பற்றி இப்பாடலில் பேசுகிறார் அகத்தியர்.  அதற்கு ஒருவர் மலங்களற்றவராக, பூரணமாக, தனது மனமே சாட்சியாக நிற்கவேண்டும் என்கிறார் அவர்.  இந்த நிலை நவகிரங்களால் கிடைக்கும் என்றும் அவர் கூறுகிறார். நமது உடலில் நவகிரங்கள் எவ்வாறு சக்கரங்களைக் குறிக்கின்றன என்று முன்னமே பார்த்தோம்.  இவ்வாறு நவகிரகங்கள் உணர்வு நிலைகளை, தன்மைகளைக் குறிப்பதால் அவை நன்மை பயப்பவையாக இருந்தால்தான், குருவாக இருந்தால்தான் ஏற்படும் என்கிறார் அவர். இந்த நிலை பொற்றாமரை உச்சியில் ஏற்படும் என்றும் அந்த நிலையில் அஹம் பிரம்மாஸ்மி என்ற போதம் நிலைபெற்றிருக்கும் என்றும் கூறுகிறார் அகத்தியர்.  இதை ஒருவர் வாசியால் காணலாம் என்றும் அவர் கூறுகிறார்.
