167. Rituals for placing the body in the tomb

Verse 167

பண்ணப்பா கிரகமென்ற சமாதினுள்ளே

பதிவான மத்தி என்ற எண்சாண் தன்னில்

நண்ணப்பா தூபமதால் சுத்தி பண்ணி

நாட்டமுடன் ஐயும் கிலியும் சிவயநமவென்று

கண்ணப்பா ஈசான்னியம் பார்வையாகக்

கருணையுடன் தானிருத்திக் கனிவாய் மைந்தா

முன்னப்பா செய்து வைத்த முத்தூள் தன்னை

முக்கியமுடன் சிவவசி என்று எடுத்திடாயே

Translation:

Place it within the house, the tomb,

In the middle eight finger spans

Clean it with the fragrant smoke

As aim kleem sivayanam

Let the eye be directed towards the north-east (isanya)

Placing there with humility

The three powders that were made before

Take it saying sivavasi.

Commentary:

The body brought to the tomb is placed in the eight fingerspan depression made in the middle.  The place is purified with the fragrant smoke.  The body is placed such that it faces north east.  The mantra aim kleem sivayana is uttered.  The three powders- that of stone, brick and sacred ash, that were made by mixing them together is taken up uttering sivavasi.

உடலை சமாதியினுள் மத்தியில் ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ள எட்டு சாண் குழியில் ஈசான்யம் எனப்படும் வடகிழக்கு திசையைப் பார்த்தபடி வைக்கவேண்டும்.  அப்போது ஐயும் கிலியும் சிவயநம என்று உச்சரிக்கவேண்டும்.  பிறகு அந்த இடத்தை தூபம் காட்டித் தூய்மைப்படுத்தி முன்பு செய்து வைத்திருந்த முத்தூளை-கல்தூள், செங்கல் தூள் மற்றும் விபூதி, சிவவசி என்று கூறியபடி எடுக்கவேண்டும் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.
