Verse 236

எண்ணப்பா ஆயிரத்தெண்ணுருவே செய்தால்

என்ன செய்வேன் மாரணந்தான் சித்தியாகும்

நண்ணப்பா மாரணந்தான் சித்தியானால்

நாடுமுன்னே சகலபிணி மாண்டு போகும்

கண்ணப்பா தான் கெடுக்கச் சத்துருவின் பேரை

கருணையுடன் தானினைத்து மாரணத்தே யோத

முன்னப்ப குண்ணியவன் மாண்டு போவான்

மூர்க்கமுடன் மாரணத்தை யேற்றியூதே

Translation:

If it is recited thousand and eight times

What can I do, death with be intended

If maarana siddhi is attained

All the diseases will die even before seeking them (to destroy)

If you wish to destroy the enemy

Intending maaranam for them and reciting

Will make him die

Intende maaranam with force, raise it and recite

Commentary:

Agatthiyar shows that maaranam will make all diseases run away even before seeking them to get rid of them.  It is also effective in killing one’s enemies.  He says that the person will decrease in stature and die.  “kunnam” generally refers to leprosy where parts of a person decrease and fall off.

மாரண சித்தி எல்லா நோய்களையும் ஓடிவிடச் செய்யும்.  ஒருவர் அவற்றைத் தேடி ஒழிக்க முனைவதற்கு முன் இந்த சித்தி அவற்றை ஓட்டிவிடும் என்று அகத்தியர் கூறுகிறார்.  இந்த சித்தி ஒருவரது எதிரிகளையும் அழிக்கும்.  மாரணத்தை விரும்பி ஒருவர் இந்த மந்திரத்தை உச்சரித்தால் அந்த எதிரி குண்ணிச் சாவார் என்று அகத்தியர் கூறுகிறார். “குன்னம் அல்லது குண்ணம்” என்பது பொதுவாக தொழுநோயைக் குறிக்கும்.
