228. Purpose of ucchaadanam

Verse 228

பாரப்பா பாரதனில் இருந்துக்கொண்டு

பத்தியுடன் சிவயோகத் திருக்கும்போது

வீறப்பா கொண்டதொரு நோய்களெல்லாம்

விதமுடனே பில்லி சூன் னியங்களெல்லாம்

நேரப்பா உச்சாடனத்தாற் காணாதோடும்

நிருவகிதா சகல சித்தும் ஆடலாகும்

நேரப்பா சத்தி கணபதியினாலே

தீர்க்கமுடன் சாடனந்தான் சித்தியாமே

Translation:

See son, while remaining in this world

While remaining in Sivayogam

All the diseases that occur with a vigor

All the magical inflictions

Will run away and disappear because of ucchaadanam

All the magical accomplishments will dance

Due to Sakthi Ganapathy

This is ucchaadana siddhi.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar explains clearly the purpose of ucchaadanam.  Some people think that it is to bring about an evil effect on others.  Agatthiyar says that it is useful for one engaged in Siva yogam as follows:  When they are attempting arduous spiritual practices some harsh diseases, some magical inflictions that are called pilli soonyam may be directed towards them to prevent them from attaining their goal, the supreme state.  Ucchaadanam is practiced to ward off these evil inflictions.  Sakthi Ganapathy will drive away diseases and magical spells so that the yogin can reach his goal without any hindrance.

பொதுவாக உச்சாடனம் என்பது ஒரு தீய விளைவை ஏற்படுத்த ஒரு மந்திரத்தை செபிப்பது என்று எண்ணப்படுகிறது.  இப்பாடலில் அகத்தியர் உச்சாடனத்தின் உண்மையான நோக்கத்தை விளக்குகிறார்.  ஒருவர் இவ்வுலகில் வாழ்ந்துகொண்டு சிவயோகத்தில் இருக்க முனைந்தால் அவரது குறிக்கோளைத் தடை செய்ய பல தீய சக்திகள் அவரை நோக்கி ஏவப்படலாம்.  அவை பில்லி சூனியம் மற்றும் வீறுகொண்டெழும் நோய்களாக இருக்கலாம்.  இந்தத் தடைகளை விலக்க உச்சாடனம் பயன்படுகிறது.  உச்சாடனத்தை ஒருவர் மேற்கொண்டால் சக்தி கணபதியின் அருளால் இந்தத் தீய சக்திகள் அனைத்தும் அவரைவிட்டு ஓடிவிடும் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.
