92. True Charya

Verse 92

கண்டு மனந் தேர்ந்தந்த நதியில் மூழ்கிக்

கமலமலர் சிவாலயத்தைப் பூசைபண்ணி

நின்றநிலை காணாத மாந்தரெல்லாம்

நீள்புவியில் சிவாலயங்கள் நதிகள் தேடி

சென்று மிகத் தானலைந்து பரிதவித்து

சீவநிலையறியாமல் திகைத்து மாண்பர்

அண்டமெனும் உடலுயிரை அறியாமல்தான்

அலைவார்கள் சரியைவழி அறியார் தானே

Translation:

Seeing it, understanding it, immersing in that river

Worshipping the lotus temple of Siva,

People who do not see the state of how they remain

Search for temples and rivers in the wide world

Going there and roaming around greatly, suffering,

Without knowing the status of the soul, will die dumbfounded.

Without knowing the soul and the body, the “andam” (universe)

Will wander.  They are those who do not know the path of charya.

Commentary:

After pointing out to the temples and rivers inside Agatthiyar tells us what a person who is knowledgeable about charya will do.  He will identify the site through the mind as it is not perceivable by external senses.  He will immerse himself in the river, the nadi.  That is he will direct his consciousness to the nadi.  He will worship the “kamala malar sivaalayam” the Siva temple of lotus, the cakras.  This is true charya, temple worship.  Those who do not know this are the ones who run searching for temples and sacred rivers in the external world and die in the end without realizing that the universe is actually their soul and body combination. 

நம்முடலுள் எங்கே சிவாலயங்களும் நதிகளும் இருக்கின்றன  என்று சுட்டிக் காட்டிய பிறகு அகத்தியர் இப்பாடலில் இதை அறிந்த ஒரு யோகி என்ன செய்வார் என்று கூறுகிறார்.  இந்த சிவாலயங்களையும் நதிகளையும் ஒருவர் மனத்தால்தான் பார்க்கமுடியும், வெளிப்புலன்களுக்கு அவை தென்படமாட்டா.  இவற்றை மனத்தால் உணர்ந்த ஒரு யோகி இந்த நதியில் மூழ்குவார், அதாவது தனது விழிப்புணர்வை இந்த நாடிகளில் செலுத்துவார்.  அவற்றின் மூலம் “கமல மலர் சிவாலயத்தில்” பூஜை செய்வார்.  அதாவது நாடிகளின் மூலம் தாமரை மலர்களாக உருவகப்படுத்தப்படும் சக்கரங்களை அடைந்து அவை குறிக்கும் உயர் விழிப்புணர்வு நிலைகளை அனுபவிப்பார்.

இதை அறியாத மாந்தர்கள் தான் வெளியில் உள்ள கோயில்களையும் நதிகளையும் தேடி ஓடுவர், அவ்வாறு அலைந்து அண்டம் எனப்படும் உலகமே தன்னுள் இருக்கும் உயிரும் உடலும் என்பதைப் புரிந்துகொள்ளாமல் முடிவில் மாண்டுபோவர் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.
