Verse 463

அமாவாசி விபரம்

 சுத்தமுள்ள ஆதர சூட்சந்தன்னை

தொடுகுறி போலச் சொல்லுகிறேன் நன்றாய்ச்

சித்தமுள்ள தேகமது திசமிமைந்தா

சிவசிவா திசமியிலே நவமி தோன்றும்

பத்தமுள்ள நவமியாலே அஷ்டசத்தி

பதிவாக அஷ்டாங்க யோகமானால்

உத்ததொரு அஷ்டாங்க யோகந் தன்னில்

உதித்த சதம் எழுவகை தோற்றம் பாரே

Translation:

Amavasi details

The pure subtle adhara

I will tell you about it as if pointing it out

The body with chittham is disami (dasami-tenth day)

Siva sivaa! In the disami the Navami (ninth day) will occur

Because of the Navami the ashta sakthi (eight sakti)

If ashtanga yoga is accomplished

In the favorable ashtanga yoga

Emerged the hundred (countless) seven types of forms.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar is playing with numbers in this verse.  Amavasi is new moon day.  The term means living near.  The new moon day signifies the beginning of the bright half of the moon.  There is increase in the brightness of the moon from Amavasya onwards. 

Agatthiyar is explaining amavasi in the context of the body.  He calls the body as dasami or the tenth day.  The body is made up of ten senses. In this dasami, the Navami or nine occurs,  The nine may be nine states of consciousness.  Due to these chakras the yogin attains eight powers or ashta sakthi.  The eight powers are ashta siddhi.  The ashtanga yoga is also attained in the body.  This combination gives rise to seven types of lifeforms.  The life forms are crawlers, birds, aquatic, plants, celestials, humans and those that move on land.

It is interesting that Agatthiyar has blessed us with this song about Amavasya on Adi Amavasya day (2/8/2016).

அகத்தியர் இப்பாடலில் எண்களின் மூலம் தத்துவங்களை விளக்குகிறார்.  அமாவாசி என்பது சந்திரன் ஒளியுடன் தோன்றுவதற்கு முற்பட்ட நாள்.  அந்த நாள் முழு இருளாக இருந்தாலும் ஒளியின் பிறப்பைக் குறிக்கும். 

அமாவாசி என்பதை உடல் நோக்கில் விளக்குகிறார் அகத்தியர்.  இந்த உடல் தசமி அதாவது பத்தால் ஆனது என்கிறார் அவர்.  பத்து என்பது பத்து புலன்களைக் குறிக்கும்.  இந்த புலன்களால் ஆன உடலில் நவமி அல்லது ஒன்பது சக்கரங்கள் தோன்றுகின்றன.  அவற்றால் ஏற்படுவது அஷ்டசக்தி அல்லது எட்டு சக்திகள்.  இந்த உடலின் மூலம் அஷ்டாங்க யோகம் நிகழ்கிறது.  அவ்வாறான சூட்சும உடலினால் எழுவகை உயிர்கள் தோன்றுகின்றன அதாவது ஊர்வன, பறப்பன, நீரில் வாழ்வன, நிலத்தில் வாழ்வன, தாவரங்கள், தேவர்கள், மனிதர்கள் என்ற ஏழு வகை உயிர்கள் இந்த சூட்சும உடலைக் கொண்டுள்ளன என்கிறார் அவர்.
