36. Tattva and taathvika

Verse 36

பாரப்பா தன்னை மிகத்தானே கண்டு

பக்தியுடன் உள்கருவி மூலம் பார்த்து

நேரப்பா நின்றதினால் தத்துவத்தின் பெருமை

நீதியுடன் தோணுமடா நினைவாய்ப் பாரு

சாரப்பா மனசாரச் சார்ந்து பார்த்தால்

சார்வான தத்துவங்கள் தோணும் பாரு

ஆரப்பா அறிவார்கள் பூதமைந்தில்

அதிற்பிறந்த தத்துவந்தான் தொண்ணூற்றாரே

Translation:

See son, seeing the self greatly,

Seeing it with the internal instruments, with devotion,

By remaining clear, the glory of the principles

Will appear properly. See it carefully

If you see it mentally

The associated principles will appear.  See them

Son, who knows that from the five elements

The principles that are born are ninety six.

Commentary:

According to the Tamil Siddhas the total number of principles or tattva are ninety six.  Thirty six of them are primary principles and the remaining sixty are derived principles from the primary principles, taatvikam.  Agatthiyar is referring to this concept in this verse.  He has already listed the thity six principles in the previous verse (24 atma tattva, 7 vidya tattva and 5 siva tattva).  From the next verse he will be describing the derived principles.  Setting the stage for this he is saying that if one examines the nature of the principles carefully one will see that the derived principles occur from the primary principles. 

சித்த மார்க்கத்தில் தத்துவங்கள் 96 ஆகக் கருதப்படுகின்றன.  அவற்றில் 36 பிரதம தத்துவங்கள் என்றும் மீதி 60 சார்வுத் தத்துவங்கள் என்றும் அழைக்கப்படுகின்றன.  சார்வுத் தத்துவங்கள் பிரதம தத்துவங்களிலிருந்து தோன்றுபவை.  இவற்றை அவர் அடுத்த பாடலிலிருந்து விளக்கத் தொடங்குகிறார்.  பிரதம தத்துவங்களை ஒருவர் மனதால் கவனம் கொண்டு நோக்கினால் அவற்றிலிருந்துதான் சார்வுத் தத்துவங்கள் தோன்றுகின்றன என்பதைக் காணலாம் என்று அவர் கூறுகிறார்.
