27. Jnanendriya

Verse 27

கேளப்பா ஞான இந்திரியந்தன்னை

கிருபையுடன் சொல்லுகிறேன் நன்றாய்க்கேளு

சூளப்பா தோத்திரந்தான் தேகந்தேகம்

வாளப்பா சக்ஷுவென்றால் நேத்ரமாகு

மகத்தான சிங்குவென்றால் வாய்தானாகும்

காலப்பா ஆக்கிராணம் மூக்கு மூக்கு

கருணையுள்ள ஞான இந்திரியமைந்தாம்.

Translation:

Listen son, about the senses of wisdom (jnanendriya)

I will tell you with mercy, hear well, 

Adorn son, the worshipful body, body

That which is called “thvak” is the body, deham,

See son, “chakshu” means eyes

The magnificient “singhu” means mouth

The air, son, “aagraanam” means nose

The merciful jnana indriya are five.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar is explaining the organs of knowledge or jnanendriya in this verse.  They are five in number.  The body is called thvak, the eyes are shakshu, mouth is singhu and the nose is aagranam. The ears are missing in this verse.   Agatthiyar will continues about them in the next verse also.

பூதங்களைப் பற்றிக் கூறிய பிறகு அகத்தியர் ஞாநேந்திரியன்களைப் பற்றிக் கூறத்தொடங்குகிறார்.  உடல் த்வக் என்றும் கண்கள் சக்ஷு என்றும் வாய் சிங்கு என்றும் மூக்கு ஆக்ராணம் என்றும் அழைக்கப்படுகின்றன.  இங்கு காது குறிப்பிடப்படவில்லை.
