14. Agatthiyar's instructions for the learners of saumya sagaram

Verse 14

சொல்லக்கேள் சௌமிய சாகரத்தை மைந்தா

சுகமான வடமொழியைத் தமிழால் செய்தேன்

அல்லக்கேள் ஆதிமுதல் சொன்ன நூலில்

அரிதரிது இதன் பெருமை யாருங் காணார்

வெல்லக்கேள் வேதமென்ற சௌமியத்தை

மேலான பதவிஎன்று பதனம் பண்ணி

உள்ளத்தின் தன்னொளிவு மேலே நீயும்

உண்மையுடன் அந்தி சந்தி பூசை பண்ணே!

Translation:

Son, hear (me) say the saumya sagaram

I make Sanskrit (work) in Tamil

Listen about (topics) from the origin in the book

Listen to saumyam the Veda, to become victorious

Contemplating it saying it (will offer) supreme position

With the heart, you

Perform truly “andhi sandhi” worship.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar says that he translated the Veda in Sanskrit into Tamil. Hence, it is the essence of the Veda.  This book will talk about all topics, from the origin.  No one will be able to comprehend the glory of this book.  If one becomes an expert in it then one would be victorious.  “ullatthin thannolivu” may mean the hidden regions of the heart.  Hence, this book is meant for learning and contemplation.  Agatthiyar is repeating Siva’s instructions when he says “do andhi sandhi worship”. 

சௌமிய சாகரம் என்பது வடமொழியிலிருந்து தமிழாக்கப்பட்டது என்று கூறும் அகத்தியர் அது வேதம், ஆதி முதல் அனைத்து விஷயங்களையும் விளக்குவது, அதில் கூறுப்பட்டுள்ள பொருட்களை ஒருவர் படித்து மனதில் எண்ணிப்பார்க்க வேண்டும் என்கிறார்.  அவ்வாறு செய்தால் ஒருவர் வெற்றி பெறுவது நிச்சயம் என்கிறார்.  “அந்தி சந்தி பூசை பண்ணு” என்று அவர் கூறுவது சிவனின் கட்டளையை மீண்டும் வலியுறுத்துவதாகும்.
