10. What did the tavayogis pray to Agatthiyar?

Verse 10

பணிந்துமிக அனைவோரும் இருகை கூப்பி

பரமகுரு தேசிகரே பதிவாய் நீரும்

கனிந்து மிக அந்தமதிற் கருணையாகி

கடாட்சித்த சௌமிய சாகரத்தை நாங்கள்

அணிந்துவரின் தெரிசனங்கள் பார்ப்போமென்று

அனைவோரும் ஒரு மனதாய் அருள்கண் கூர்ந்து

துணித்து வந்தோம் உம்முடைய பாதந்தன்னில்

சுகமாக அடுமை படைத்து ஆள் என்றாரே

Translation:

All of them, saluting with their palms folded in supplication

They said, “The supreme guru, the desika, you

With mercy and compassion towards the terminus,

Blessed us with the saumya sagaram.

If we adorn it, we will see special visions

We all came in unison seeking your grace

We came boldly.  Please accept us

At your sacred feet and rule us.”

Commentary:

Agatthiyar is describing the exchange between him and other tapasvis who came to meet him at the peak of the Pothigai hill.  The saints eulogized Agatthiyar as the parama guru and as desika.  Calling Agatthiyar as the paramaguru reaffirms his position as the chief of the Tamil Siddhas. Desikan means one who takes the jiva to Isvara.  The saints praise the saumya sagaram saying that it will grant special visions for those who know it.  They also requested Agatthiyar to accept them as his disciples. 

இப்பாடலில் அகத்தியரிடம் தவயோகிகள் கேட்டதை அறிகிறோம்.  அவர்கள் அகத்தியரை அடைந்து அவரை பரமகுரு தேசிகா என்று போற்றி அவரது சௌமிய சாகரம் அதனை அறிந்தவர்களுக்குப் பல அதிசயங்களை, காட்சிகளைக் காட்டும் அதைத் தாமும் அறிய விரும்புகிறோம்.  அதனால் தம்மை சீடராக ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளுமாறு வேண்டினர்.
