13. Qualifications required to learn saumya sagaram, What Agatthiyar will offer

Verse 13

பாரையா சொல் மொழிகள் தவறொண்ணாது

பத்தியுடன் உத்திரவு பெற்று வந்தால்

நேரையா சௌமியமாம் பொருளுஞ்சொல்லி

நிசமான சாகரத்தின் நிலையுங் காட்டி

தேரையா வென்றுக்கா யாதி ஈந்து

செய்த தொரு சாஸ்திரமே ஈவோமொன்று

மேரையா மேரு நடு முடியிற் சென்றேன்

விளம்பியதோர் சௌமியத்தை சொல்லக் கேளே

Translation:

See Sir, if you come with faultless words and speech,

If you come with devotion having obtained permission,

Explaining the meaning of the saagaram

Showing the state of the truthful saagaram

Offering kaayam and others saying “become an expert”

We will offer you a sastra that was created

I went to the middle peak of the Meru

Listen to me tell you about the favorite saumyam.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar explains the conditions under which he will teach the saumya sagaram.  First, the person should not have bad words or speech.  Next, he should have devotion.  Third, he should have obtained the permission to hear this knowledge.  If both these conditions are met them Agatthiyar will explain to him the knowledge conveyed through the saumya sagaram, show him the state of the saagaram, grant him kaya siddhi etc.  Agatthiyar describes his state when he will teach this composition.  He will remain in the peak of the Meru.  Meru refers to the middle nadi, the sushumna.  Thus, middle peak of Meru means the supreme state reached by making the consciousness ascend the sushumna nadi.  Thus, Agatthiyar will convey this supreme knowledge from a state of supreme consciousness for deserving souls.

யாருக்குத் தான் இந்த அறிவைப் புகட்டுவேன் என்று அகத்தியர் இப்பாடலில் கூறுகிறார். முனிவர்களும் தபோதனர்களும் விரும்பிய இந்த அறிவைப் பெற, ஒருவர் தவறான சொற்கள், வாக்கு ஆகியவை இல்லாமல் இருக்கவேண்டும், பக்தியுடன் இருக்க வேண்டும்.  இந்த அறிவைப் பெறுவதற்கு உத்தரவு பெற்றிருக்கவேண்டும்.  இவ்வாறு ஒருவர் வந்தால் அகத்தியர் அவருக்கு சௌமிய சாகரத்தின் பொருளைக் கூறி அதன் நிலையைக் காட்டி காயசித்தி முதலியவற்றை ஈவார்.  அதற்கு அவர், தான் மேரு மலையின் மத்திய உச்சியில் இருந்தபடி இதைக் கூறுவேன் என்கிறார்.  மேரு மலை என்பது தண்டுவடம்.  அதன் உச்சி என்பது சகஸ்ராரம்.  இவ்வாறு தான் நடுமுடியின் இருப்பேன் என்று அகத்தியர் கூறுவது அவர் பரவுணர்வு நிலையில் இருந்தபடி இந்த அறிவைத் தருவேன் என்று கூறுவதாகப் பொருள்படும்.  அதனால் அகத்தியர் எவ்வாறு ஒருவருக்கு உபதேசத்தை அளிப்பார் என்பதும் அதைப் பெற ஒருவருக்கு என்ன தகுதிகள் தேவை என்பதும் புரிகிறது.
