440. Devi grants Kadgam

Verse 440

சத்தியமாய் நின்றசிவ சத்தி மாதே

சமர்முனையில் வைத்திருந்த தாயே தாயே

வெத்தியுள்ள பூரணத்தின் வேத ரூபி

வேதாந்த கோத்திரமாய் விளங்குந்தாயே

முத்தியுள்ள மோன மந்திர விவேகத்தாயே

மோனமுடன் தியானமதாய்ப் பூசை செய்யே

பத்தியுள்ள மந்திரவாள் கையில் ஈந்து

பதிவான வரங்கொடுப்பாள் கெதியைப் பாரே

Translation:

The Lady Siva Sakthi who remained as truth

The Mother, mother who kept (it) at the tip of battle

The victorious veda rupi of poornam

The mother who remains as the Vedanta Gotram

The mother who is liberating mantra of silence

You worship her as silence and dhyana

She will grant the devotional magical sword

And the merciful boons.  See the path/refuge.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar tells Pulatthiyar that he should praise mother Devi in several ways addressing her as Siva Sakthi, mother who keeps the consciousness at the battle tip, the battle being that between limitedness and unlimitedness.  ‘Samar’ also means porcupine. The ajna cakra is said to be at the size of the tip of the quill of a porcupine.  Sakthi stabilizes the consciousness at the ajna.  She is the Veda rupi or embodiment of Veda.  She is the Vedanta gotram or the lineage of Vedanta.  She is worshipped as dhyana and silence.  Then she will grant the devotee with the magical sword and boons.

தேவியைப் பல பெயர்களால் துதிக்கவேண்டும் என்று புலத்தியருக்குக் கூறுகிறார் அகத்தியர். சிவசக்தி மாது, சமர் முனையில் வைத்திருக்கும் மாதா- அதாவது அளவுக்குட்பட்டமையும் எல்லையின்மையும் போரிடும் இடமான ஆக்ஞாவில் வைத்திருக்கும் தாய் என்று அவளைத் துதிக்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.  சமர் என்றா முள்ளம்பன்றி என்றும் ஒரு பொருள் உள்ளது.  ஆக்ஞை முள்ளம்பன்றியின் முள் முனையின் அளவில் இருக்கும் என்று யோக நூல்கள் கூறுகின்றன.  தேவி வேதரூபி, வேதாந்த வழியைச் சேர்ந்தவள்.  இவ்வாறு அவளைத் துதித்தால் அவள் பூரண மந்திர வாளையும் வரங்களையும் தருவாள் என்று கூறுகிறார் அகத்தியர்.
