299. Who is Buddha?

Verse 299

காரப்பா சாக்ஷி எங்கும் நாமாய்நின்று

கவிந்து நின்ற மாயமெல்லாம் நமக்குக் கீழே

சாரப்பா நிரந்தரமும் உரைத்து நின்று

சகல பிரபஞ்ச மெல்லா மிருத்து வென்று

நேரப்பா நின்றவனே அதன்தாள்புத்தன்

நினைவான ஆறுவகை அறிவித்தேதான்

பேரப்பா ஆறுவிதத் தாரணையைச் சொல்வேன்

பெருகிநின்ற பூதமஞ்சு சமத்தாய்க்கேளே

Translation:

See son, remaining as witness, as self, everywhere

All the maya, below us

If you remain so permanently

All the universes will be won over while remaining in them

One who remain so is Buddha

Announcing the six types

I will now tell you about six types of dharana

The five elements- now hear about it.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar defines the term Buddha here.  He says that if one remains forsaking all the worldly attachments and as self in all occasions and places, he would have gone beyond the influence of maya.  He would have won over the universes.  The universes are expressions of maya.  If one understands the truth of everything one would realize this.  Such a person is Buddha.  Agatthiyar says that next he will be describing dharana.

புத்தன் என்ற சொல்லை இப்பாடலில் விளக்குகிறார் அகத்தியர்.  உலகப் பற்றுக்கள் அனைத்தையும் பாம்பு என்று கருதி விலக்கிவிட்டு ஒருவர் ஆத்ம நிலையில் நின்றால் அவர் மாயையின் தாக்குதலை வெல்கிறார்.  மாயையின் வெளிப்பாடான பிரபஞ்சங்களை வெல்கிறார்.  இத்தகைய மனிதனே புத்தன் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர். 

இதனை அடுத்து ஆறு விதமான தாரணைகளை விளக்கப் போகிறேன் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.
