44. Two categories of dasa vayu

Verse 44

கேளப்பா நாகனொடு கூர்மன் மைந்தா

கிரிகரனும் தேவதத்தன் தனஞ்செயனாம் ஐந்தும்

ஆரப்பா ஐம்பூத வாயுவென்பார்

ஆச்சரியந் தச வாய்வை அறிந்துகொள்ளு

காலப்பா தசவாய்வை அறிந்து கொண்டு

கருணையுடன் சிவயோகக் கருத்தில் நின்றால்

கோளப்பா ஒன்றுமில்லை எல்லாஞ் சித்தி

குறிப்புடனே ஆகாச வழிதான் கேளே

Translation:

Hear son, along with Naagan, koorman,

Kirikaran, Devadattan and dhananjayan are the five

People say that it is the vayu of the five elements

Learn about the wonderful ten vayus

This is the kaal, learning about the dasavayu

If you remain in siva yogam with mental focus

There is nothing, everything will be siddhi

Now hear about the path of akasha.

Commentary:

This verse is the continuation of the previous one on dasa vayu or ten types of vital breaths.  Here Agatthiyar tells us another important fact about them.  Why are the ten vayus classified into two groups?  Why are they all not of the same type?  The answer is here in this verse.  The five- prana, apana, vyana, samana and udhana have parts of vayu and tejas while the five listed here- koornman, naagan, kirikaran, devadattan and dhananjayan have only parts of vayu.  Hence, the first five are considered important for spiritual accomplishments while the five in this verse perform bodily functions. Both the groups are important for sivayogam as the latter five keep the body fit for the yoga and the former cause ascent of kundalini.  Thus, the ten vayus confer siddhi or mystical accomplishments.

முந்தைய பாடலின் தொடர்ச்சியாக உள்ள இதில் அகத்தியர் மீதம் உள்ள ஐந்து வாயுக்களைப் பற்றிப் பேசுகிறார்.  முக்கியமான வாயுக்கள் பத்து என்றால் எதற்காக அவற்றை இரண்டு கூறாகப் பிரிக்கவேண்டும்?  அவற்றினிடைய உள்ள வேறுபாடு யாது? இதை இப்பாடல் நமக்கு விளக்குகிறது.  முற்பாடலில் கூறிய ஐந்து- பிராணன், அபானன், வியானன், உதானன், சமானன் என்பவை வாயுவின் கூறுடன் தேயு எனப்படும் அக்னியின் கூறையும் கொண்டவை.  இப்பாடலில் கூறப்பட்டுள்ள ஐந்து- நாகன், கூர்மன், கிரிகரன், தேவதத்தன் மற்றும் தனஞ்சயன், வாயுவின் கூறை மட்டும் கொண்டவை.  அதனால் முதல் ஐந்தும் குண்டலினியின் எழுச்சியில் முக்கிய பங்கு வகிக்கும்போது இந்த ஐந்தும் உடலை அதற்குத் தகுந்த நிலையில் வைத்திருக்கின்றன.  அதனால் தசவாயுக்கள் என்னும் இந்த பத்தும் சிவயோகத்துக்கு முக்கியமானவையாக உள்ளன. 

இதனை அடுத்து அகத்தியர் ஆகாயத்தின் கதியை உள்ள தத்துவங்களை விளக்கப்போகிறார்.
