533. After reaching the shores climb the mountain

Verse 533

நில்லடா வழி துறையிவ் வணக்கமாக

நின்று கரை யேறினபின் மலையிற் செல்லு

அல்லடா இவ்விடமே சொர்க்கம் சொர்க்கம்

ஆதியந்தச் சொர்க்கமதில் அருள் கண் மேவி

செல்லடா சிவயோக வாழ்க்கை தன்னிலே

செம்மையுடன் சகல சவு பாக்கியம் பெற்று

உள்ளதா உள்ளவரை உலகத்தோடே

உகந்தவரை தானிருந்து உள்ளம் பாரே

Translation:

Remain in the path, with humility

After reaching the shores (overcoming it) go to the mountain

This place is heaven, heaven,

In the aadhi andha sorgam, going through the eye of grace

Go so, in the life of Sivayogam

Attaining all the riches (sakala saubhagyam)

Remain with the world as long as required

Remain until interested, see the heart.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar says that after knowing the path and following it, becoming an expert in it one should climb the mountain.  Mountain signifies peak of certain principles.  One has to clear the dregs or impurities first, attain the right state before attempting to reach the peak of any principle.  Otherwise the principle will overwhelm the yogin.  For example if one attains siddhis before removing his ego and desire one will use them for personal gain and fall into an abyss.  The situation will become worse than before.  Hence Agatthiyar is saying that one should climb the heights after reaching the shores.  The mountain also refers to Kailaya or the supreme state.  It is the state of supreme bliss.  Agatthiyar calls this the heaven.  It is the “aadhi andha sorgam” or the heaven of beginning and end.  This is laya.  This is the life of siva yogam.  After reaching this supreme state the soul remains in the world enjoying all the riches, as jiva mukta until it decides to give it up.  At that point its material existence ceases. 

This verse reminds us of Bhishma and his waiting on the arrow bed to leave the earth. 

மேற்கூறிய மார்க்கத்தைக் கடைப்பிடித்து கரையேறிய பிறகு மலைக்குச் செல்ல வேண்டும் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.  இங்கு மலை என்பது சில தத்துவங்களின் உச்சத்தைக் குறிக்கும்.  அது கைலாயம் எனப்படும் உடல்கடந்த நிலையையும் குறிக்கும்.  இந்த நிலையை அடைவதற்கு ஒரு யோகி பிற தத்துவங்களை வெல்வது முதற்கடமை.  இல்லாவிட்டால் விபரீதமான விளைவுகள் ஏற்படும்.  உதாரணமாக அகங்காரம் பேராசை ஆகியவற்றை வெல்லாத ஒருவன் சித்திகளைப் பெற்றால் அவற்றை அவன் விபரீத பலன்களுக்கே பயன்படுத்துவான்.  இந்த உச்ச நிலையை அகத்தியர் ஆதி அந்த சொர்க்கம் என்கிறார்.  இதுவே லயம்.  இதுவே சிவயோக வாழ்வு.  இந்த நிலையை அடைந்த பிறகு இந்த யோகி ஜீவன் முக்தராக உலகில் எல்லா நன்மைகளையும் சௌபாக்கியங்களையும் அனுபவிப்பவராக தான் விரும்பும்வரை வாழலாம்.  தான் விரும்பும்போது உலகை விட்டுப் போகலாம்.

இப்பாடல், தான் முடிவு செய்த காலத்தில் உடலை விட்டு நீங்குவதற்குக் காத்திருந்த பீஷ்மரின் கதையை நினைவுபடுத்துகிறது.
