519. Paasam or attachment

Verse 519

காணுவதும் பூணுவதும் பாசமாகும்

கலங்குவது முழுங்குவதும் பாசமாகும்

பேணுவதும் பிதற்றுவதும் பாசமாகும்

பெருகுவதும் குறுகுவதும் பாசமாகும்

பூணுவதும் போற்றுவதும் பாசமாகும்

போத நெறியானதுவும் பாசமாகும்

தோணுவதும் சுருக்குவதும் பாசமாகும்

சுத்தமுடன் நின்றபடி தன்னுள் பாரே

Translation:

That which is seen and adorned are pasam

Feeling confused and swallowing are pasam

Nurturing and blabbering are pasam

Expanding and contracting are pasam

Adorning and praising are pasam

Knowledge and rules are pasam

That which occurs and contracts are pasam

Remain with purity and see these within.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar describes pasam or attachment in this verse.  Every action, every adorning, every mode of knowledge and stipulation are all attachments.  This shows us that everything that causes accumulation of karma is pasam.

பாசம் என்றால் என்ன என்று அகத்தியர் இப்பாடலில் கூறுகிறார்.  செயல்கள், உணர்ச்சிகள், பேச்சு, வளர்ச்சி தேய்மானம், போதம், நெறிகள், ஆகிய அனைத்தும் பாசமாகும் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.  இதனால் கர்மத்தை ஏற்படுத்தும் எல்லாமே பாசம் என்பது தெரிகிறது.
