459. How experts of Veda waste themselves

Verse 459

பாரப்பா பரஞான மூலமான

பத்தியுள்ள காயாஸ்திரி விஞ்சை தன்னை

நேரப்பா அறியாமல் மதங்கள் பூண்டு

நிசமில்லா ஆதிமறை யோர்கள் கூடி

வீரப்பா கொண்டதொரு அட்சரத்தையோதி

வீணிற் பலநாள் அலைந்து விசையுங் கெட்டு

தூலப்பா அடிப்படையும் தகர்ந்து நல்ல

சுழிவான சுழிதனிலே சுழன்றார் காணே

Translation:

See son, the para gnana moolam

The subtlety of the kaayaasthri (Gayathri), with devotion

Without knowing this, becoming proud

The fallacious original experts of Veda, getting together

Reciting the akshara with valor

Roaming wastefully, without any action

With the sthula base also getting destroyed

They spun in the whorl, see.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar tells Pulatiyar about experts of Veda, who, without knowing about Gayathri or kaayaasthri’s letter and its subtlety recite other mantras.  They roam around engaged in this wasted effort.  Their body, the gross base also undergoes destruction.  They roam in the whorl, the samsara.  Some roam in the whorl or suzhi and lose themselves.

Gayathri devi is represented with five faces.  She represents various pentads such as states of consciousness, senses, organs, states of divinity etc.  Calling her kaayaasthri or the lady of the body is also interesting.  She is the Sakthi who is the body.  Siddhas call the soul as Siva and the body as Sakthi. 

புலத்தியரிடம் அகத்தியர் வேதத்தில் தேர்ந்தவர்கள் என்று தம்மை அழைத்துக்கொள்ளும் மறையோர் காயாஸ்திரியின் மந்திரமான ஹ்ரீங் என்பதை அறியாமல் பல பீஜ அட்சரங்களை வீரத்துடன் உச்சரித்து பயனற்று அலைந்து ஸ்தூல அடிப்படையான உடல் கெட்டு சுழி எனப்படும் சம்சார சுழலில் சுழன்று அழிந்து போகின்றனர் என்று கூறுகிறார்.

காயத்திரி தேவி ஐந்து முகங்களுடன் குறிக்கப்படுகிறார். இந்த முகங்கள் ஐந்தாக இருக்கும் பல்வேறு தத்துவங்களைக் குறிக்கின்றன.  அவளை அகத்தியர் காயாஸ்திரி என்கிறார்.  உடலில் இருக்கும் மாதுவான அவள் சக்தித்தாய்.  சித்தர்கள் ஆன்மா சிவம் என்றும் உடல் சக்தி என்றும் கூறுகின்றனர்.
