Verse 144

காணப்பா அவ்வருஷம் அறுபதுதான் கூடிக்

கருவான ஆண்டுயுகம் என்பார் மேலோர்

பூணப்பா ஆண்டுயுகம் பதினெட்டு சென்றால்

பொங்குகடல் பிரளயமாய்க் கண்டு பாரு

வேளப்பா பிரளயமும் நூறாயிரமுமானால்

பெரிதான நாள்பெருக்கம் பேணிப்பாரே

தோணப்பா அப்பெருக்கு ஈரெட்டு சென்றால்

சுகமான இந்திரர்க்குப் பூரணமாம் பாரே

Translation:

See son, sixty such years together

The wise ones call it a year eon (aandu yugam)

If eighteen such eon-year pass by

The sea will rise causing dissolution (pralaya)

If the pralaya time of hundred thousand passes

The great day will be completed

And if sixteen such great days pass by

Indra will attain completeness.

Commentary:

This verse tells us the lifespan of Indra.  In the previous verse Agatthiyar mentioned a year to contain 127,35, 28, 000 years.  Here he says that if sixty such years pass by it is called a eon-year (aandu yugam).  Eighteen such eon years will cause the waters of the sea to surge up causing complete dissolution or pralaya.  If the time for hundred thousand pralaya passes it will be the great day.  Eighteen such great days constitute the lifespan of Indra.  These scales are beyond our comprehension!

இப்பாடலில் அகத்தியர் இந்திரனின் வாழ்நாள் எவ்வளவு என்று கூறுகிறார்.  முந்தைய பாடலில் அவர் ஒரு வருடம் பிரம்மாண்ட அளவில் ஒருவருடம் என்பது 127, 35, 28, 000 வருடங்களைக் கொண்டது என்று கூறினார்.  அத்தகைய வருடங்கள் அறுபது கழிந்தால் அது ஒரு ஆண்டு யுகம் என்றும் பதினெட்டு ஆண்டு யுகங்கள் கழிந்தால் கடல் மேலெழுந்து பிரளயம் ஏற்படும் என்றும் அத்தகைய பிரளய ஆண்டு நூறாயிரம் கழிந்தால் ஒரு நாள் பெருக்கம் ஏற்படும் என்றும் அத்தகைய அறுபது தினங்கள் கழிந்தால் இந்திரனின் வாழ்வு பூர்த்தியடையும் என்றும் அகத்தியர் கூறுகிறார்.  இந்த கால அளவுகளை நம்மால் கற்பனைசெய்துகூட பார்க்க முடியவில்லை!
