143. A day, month and a year in the macro scale

Verse 143

ஆமப்பா இந்த யுகம் பதினெட்டு மைந்தா

அப்பனே கூடியொரு சதுர்யுகமாகுந்

தாமப்பா சதுர்யுகம் பதினெட்டு சென்றால்

தயவான இந்திரனுக்கு ஒரு நாளாகும்

ஓமப்பா அந்தநாள் ஆறைந்துகூடி

உத்தமனே சொல்லுகிறேன் ஒரு மாதமாகும்

போமப்பா அம்மாதம் பனிரெண்டுகூடி

புத்தியுடன் வருடமெனப் புகழ்ந்து காணே

Translation:

Yes, son these eighteen eons

Together constitute chaturyugam

If chaturyugam eighteen passes

It will be one day for Indra.

If 30 days of such a day passes by

The good one! It will be one month

If that twelve such months pass

Then see it as a glorious year.

Commentary:

This verse gives the calculations for a day, a month and a year in the macroscale.  When we add all time for all the eons we come up with 127, 35, 28, 000 years.  This is considered a day for Indra the chief of the Devas.  Thirty such days consititute a month and twelve such months constitute a year.

பிரம்மாண்ட கணக்கில் ஒரு நாள், ஒரு மாதம் ஒரு வருடம் என்றால் எவ்வளவு காலம் என்று இப்பாடலில் அகத்தியர் குறிப்பிடுகிறார்.  மேற்கூறிய பதினெட்டு யுகங்களின் கால அளவைக் கூட்டினால் நூற்று இருப்பத்தேழு கோடி முப்பத்தைந்து லட்சம் இருபத்தெட்டாயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் வருகின்றன.  இது இந்திரனின் ஒரு நாள் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.  இத்தைய நாட்கள் முப்பது சென்றால் ஒருமாதமாகும் என்றும் அத்தகைய மாதங்கள் பனிரெண்டு சென்றால் ஒரு வருடமாகும் என்றும் அகத்தியர் கூறுகிறார்.
