51. Measures of various factors in the body

Verse 51

தானான தேகமதில் கூடிநின்ற

சங்கைகளைச் சொல்லுகிறேன் நன்றாய்க் கேளு

ஊனன ரோமமது மூன்றரையாங்கோடி

உத்தமனே நாடியது எழுபத்தீராயிரமாங்

கோனான தேகமடா பலமோ ஆயிரமாங்

கொள்கியத்தில் குடல்பலந்தான் நாற்பத்தைந்து

பூனான பல்லதுவும் பலந்தான்நாலு

பொருந்திநின்ற சதைபலமும் இருநூறாச்சே

Translation:

The factors that remain in the body,

I will tell you details about them, listen

The hair in the body 3 ½ crores

The supreme one, the nadi are 72,000

The king, the body’s measure (palam) is 1000

The weight of intestines 42 measures

The weight of the teeth is 4

The weight of the flesh is 200.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar is describing the weight of various components of the body.  According to him, the total number of hair follicles in the body are 3 ½ crores, the nadi or energy channels 72000.  The weight of the body is 1000 measures (palam). The intestines constitute 42 measures, teeth 4 measures and flesh 200 measures. 

இப்பாடலிலிருந்து அகத்தியர் உடலின் பல பகுதிகளைப் பற்றி விளக்கப் புகுகிறார்.  உடலில் உள்ள மயிர்க்கால்கள் மூன்றரைக் கோடி என்று தொடங்கும் அவர் நாடிகள் எழுபத்திரண்டாயிரம் என்கிறார்.  உடல் ஆயிரம் பலம் என்றும் குடல் நாற்பத்து இரண்டு பலம், பற்கள் நான்கு பலம், சதை இருநூறு பலம் என்றும் அவர் கூறுகிறார்.
