124. Creation of elements-1

Verse 124

காணவே பரமசிவன் வானுண்டாக்கக்

கருணையுள்ள திருமாலைக் கண்ணால் மேவி

பூணவே சதாசிவத்தைப் பார்க்கும்போது

புத்தியுடன் பேரண்டம் படைத்து நின்றார்

ஊணவே மயேசுரனைப் பார்க்கவேதான்

உருமியிடி வாய்வு தனைப் படைத்து நின்றார்

தோணவே ருத்திரனைக் கண்ணால் பார்க்கத்

துலங்கு மின்னல் அக்கினியும் படைத்தார் பாரே

Translation:

To create the sky, Paramasiva

Looked at Thirumaal who is merciful.

When he looked at Sadasivam

He created the greate universe and buddhi

To firmly plant it, when he looked at Maheswaran

He created the drum-like thunder and air

When he looked at Rudra

He created lightning and fire.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar is explaining how the five elements were created.  Paramasiva wished to create the universe with the five elements.  So he looked at Vishnu and Sadasiva.  Sadasiva created the universe and the sky along with buddhi or intellect, one of the modifications of mind.  When Paramasiva looked at Maheswara, Maheswara created the air principle and thunder

When he saw Rudra, Rudra created fire and lightning.

It is interesting that creation happened through Vishnu, Sadasiva, Maheswara and Rudra while traditionally it is believed that Brahma is the authority for creation.

ஐம்பூதங்களாலான உலகைப் படைக்க விரும்பிய பரமசிவன் திருமாலைக் கண்ணால் மேவி சதாசிவனைப் பார்த்தார் என்றும் அப்போது சதாசிவன் புத்தியையும் வானத்தையும் உலகத்தையும் படைத்தார் என்றும் அகத்தியர் கூறுகிறார்.  வான் என்னும் முதல் பூதம் பிற பூதங்களுக்குத் தன்னில் இடமளிக்கிறது.  அதனால்தான் அகத்தியர், சதாசிவன் அண்டத்தைப் படைத்தார் என்கிறார். 

இதனை அடுத்து பரமசிவனார் மகேசுரனைப் பார்க்க அவர் காற்றுத் தத்துவத்தையும் இடியையும் படைத்தார்.  அவருக்கு அடுத்து பரமசிவனார் உருத்திரனைப் பார்க்க அவர் தீ தத்துவத்தையும் மின்னலையும் படைத்தார் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.

பொதுவாக படைப்புக்கடவுள் பிரம்மா என்று கூறுவது வழக்கம்.  இப்பாடலில் அகத்தியர் படைப்பு திருமாலின் உதவியுடன் நடந்தது என்று கூறுகிறார்.  மால் என்பது மாயை என்பதைக் குறிக்கும்.  இதனால் படைப்பு மாயையின் உதவியால் நடந்தது என்று அகத்தியர் கூறுகிறார் என்று தோன்றுகிறது.
