73. Lalata cakra

Verse 73

பண்ணப்ப ஆதார பூசைப் பண்ணி

பதியான முச்சுடரின் தியானங் கேளு

நண்ணப்பா புருவமத்தில் மனக்கண் சாற்றி

நாட்டமுடன் அங்கிலி நங்கென்றேதான்

உன்னாப்பா லலாட விழிக் கண்ணினின்று

உத்தமனே நூற்றெட்டு உருவே செய்தால்

கண்ணப்பா தான் குளிர மதிதானின்று

காணுமடா பூரணச் சந்திரனைப் பாரே

Translation:

After performing the adhara puja, Son,

Hear about the meditation for the triple flames, the locus/the lord

Seek it son in the middle of the brow, through the mind’s eye

Through ang, kili, nang, with interest

Seek it while remaining in the eye of the lalata

The Good One! If you recite it hundred and eight times

With the eyes becoming cool, the moon,

Commentary:

The cakra next to ajna is the lalata cakra which is a little above the ajna.  Some say that this is the pineal gland from which secretions ooze out during yogic practices.  Just as how the ajna is marked with a dot (kumkum) this spot is marked with a halfmoon sign drawn with sandalwood paste to indicate that it is cooling in nature.  Agathiyar is describing the lalata cakra practice in this verse that involves the triple flames, the sun, the moon and the fire.  He does not mention a yantra here.  This may be because, beyond the ajna cakra the principles are perceived in their formless form.  The mantra for japa is ang kili nang.  When one recites this mantra 108 times, Agatthiyar says that the eyes will become cool and the purna Chandra will be seen.

ஆக்ஞைக்கு அடுத்த சக்கரம் லலாட சக்கரம்.  அது ஆக்ஞைக்கு சிறிது மேலே இருக்கிறது.  ஆக்ஞை எவ்வாறு குங்குமம் இட்டு நினைவில் நிருத்தப்படுகிறதோ அதே போல் லலாடம் சந்தனத்தால் பிறையைப் போல நெற்றியில் குறிக்கப்படுகிறது.  இதன் குளுமையை உணர்த்தவே சந்தனம் பயன்படுத்தப்படுகிறது.  இப்பாடலில் அகத்தியர் லலாட சக்கரம் முத்தீயின் தியானம் ஆகியவற்றை விளக்குகிறார்.  இதற்கான யந்திரம் குறிப்பிடப்படவில்லை.  ஆக்ஞைக்கு மேல் இறைவனின் அருவ உருவம் தியானிக்கப்படுவதால் எவ்வித யந்திரமும் கொடுக்கப்படவில்லையோ என்று தோன்றுகிறது.  இத்தியானத்துக்கான மந்திரம் அங் கிலி நங் என்று அகத்தியர் கூறுகிறார்.  இவ்வாறு நூற்றியெட்டு முறை செபித்தால் முத்தீக்கள் தென்படும் லலாடக் கண் திறக்கும்.  கண்கள் குளுமையடைந்து பூரண சந்திரன் தென்படும் என்கிறார் அவர்.
