467. Elements as pairs

Verse 467

காணவே சத்திசிவ மாகிநின்ற

காலான வாய்வுடனே தீயும் ரெண்டும்

பூணவே ஆகாயஞ் சாட்சியாகப்

போனதின்பின் பிரிதிவியும் அப்பும் ரெண்டு

தோணவே ரெண்டுமது மொன்றாய்க் கூட்டி

சேர்ந்து மிகத்தான் மடிந்து சுத்தமாகப்

பேணவே மண்ணாகி உப்பாய்ப் போன

பேச்சறிந்து அஞ்சையுமே பேணிப்பாரே

Translation:

To see, Sakthi and Sivam

Adorrned as air and fire

With the sky as the witness

After that the earth and water.

Joining the two together

With their identites dying and becoming pure

They become soil and salt

Knowing this, see the five.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar says that Sivam and Sakthi become the five elements.  He describes them as pairs,  fire and air, earth and water with sky as the witness.  These two should be joined together, that is Sakthi and Sivam should be joined together, nadha and bindu brought together to turn them into soil and salt. 

சக்தியும் சிவமும் ஐந்து பூதங்களாகின்றன என்னும் அகத்தியர் அவற்றை இரட்டை இரட்டையாகக் கூறுகிறார்.  காற்று, தீ என்ற இரண்டு, நிலம் நீர் என்ற இரண்டு இவற்றிற்கு ஆகாயம் சாட்சி என்கிறார் அவர்.  இந்த இரண்டுகளை ஒன்றாகக் கூட்டவேண்டும் அப்போது அவை மண்ணும் உப்புமாகும் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.
