267. Conclusion on iyama

Verse 267

காணப்பா வேதாந்த சாரத்தாலே

காலமென்ற திருதிகளை காணேன் என்று

வீணப்பா வந்ததில்லைப் போனதில்லை

வேதாந்த குருமுகத்தை தெரிந்துகொண்டு

தோணப்பா எக்கால வஸ்து தானாம்

சுகமாக இருப்பதுமே சவுசமாச்சு

ஆணப்பா இயம மென்ற பதினொன்றுஞ்சொன்னேன்

அறிந்து கொண்டு நியமமதை அருளக் கேளே

Translation:

See son, by Vedanta sara

The drithi (good times) of time

There is nothing that happens and goes away/birth and death

Knowing the Gurumukham the Vedanta

Understand that (we are) the eternal entity

Remaining comfortably is state of purity

I told you about the eleven parts of yama

Now listen to me speak about niyama. 

Commentary:

Agatthiyar says that we are not perishable entities, we are not things that come up and die. We are eternal entities.  This knowledge is conferred upon us by Vedanta sara.  Remaining with understanding is drithi or mental fortitude.  We should understand this with the help of a Guru who will explain it clearly and appropriately for us.  Remaining with this knowledge is ultimate purity or saucham. 
Agatthiyar concludes the section on iyama with this verse and states that he will describe niyama next. 

நாம் தோன்றி மறைபவர்கள் அல்ல, வந்து போகுபவர்கள் அல்ல, எக்கால வஸ்து என்று கூறும் அகத்தியர் இந்த அறிவை ஒருவர் வேதாந்த சாரத்திலிருந்து பெறலாம் என்றும் அதை குருமுகமாக ஒருவர் அறியவேண்டும் என்றும் கூறுகிறார். இவ்வாறு மனவுறுதியுடன் இருப்பதே திருதி.  இதுவும் இயமத்தின் ஒரு பகுதி.   இவ்வாறு செய்தால் தவறான புரிதல்கள் தவிர்க்கப்படும்.  இந்த அறிவோடு இருப்பது சவுசம் அல்லது தூய்மை என்கிறார் அவர்.  இவ்வாறு தான் இதுவரை கூறிய பதினோரு வகையான இயமங்களைத் தொடர்ந்து இனி தான் நியமத்தை விளக்கப்போவதாகக் கூறி இப்பாடலை முடிக்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.
