264. Mukthi

Verse 264

காணடா அபினான சொப்பனத்தை

கசடான மனதாலே தாங்கலற்று

பேணடா தொய்தநிலைப் பெற்றாராகில்

பெருகி நின்ற சமயமிது பிலமாய்ப் பாரு

ஊணடா காரியத்தில் மனதிக்கோனை

உருகாமல் இருக்கிறதே தரித்திரமென்பார்

தோணடா  வேதாந்தத்தாலே முத்தி

சுத்தமுடன் அமைத்தொன்றும் இல்லை தானே

Translation:

See, the dreams- self interest, pride, 

Without having the mind indulge in them
If they remain in the dvandha state
It is religion.  See this clearly.

Plant the mind, the cause, the lord of the mind
firmly without melting- they call this poverty.

Think, mukti is due to Vedanta.

Purity is nothing other than this. 

Commentary:

Agatthiyar explains religion as having the mind not polluted by self interest, pride, happiness or sorrow.  The mind should be planted firmly at the causality, the lord of the mind.  One should remain in this state.  It is not clear why Agatthiyar calls this dharidhram or poverty.  One wonders whether he means druthi or mental fortitude.  It is also firmly believing that Vedanta will grant mukthi or liberation.
Dvandham means in the state of union.

அகத்தியர் சமயம் என்றால் என்ன என்று முதலில் விளக்குகிறார்.  மான அபிமானம், மகிழ்ச்சி துன்பம் ஆகியவற்றைத் தாங்காமல் த்வந்த நிலையில் இருப்பதே சமயம் என்கிறார் அவர்.  த்வந்தம் என்றால் ஒன்றாக இருக்கும் நிலை.  இதைத் தவிர மனம் உறுதியாக காரணம், மனதின் அரசன் எனப்படும் இறைவனிடம் ஊன்றப்பட்டு தனது நிலையை விட்டுப் பிறழாமல், உருகாமல் இருப்பது என்றும் அவர் கூறுகிறார். இவற்றை அவர் என் தரித்திரம் என்று கூறுகிறார் என்பது தெரியவில்லை.  அடுத்த பாடலில் கூறும் த்ருதி அல்லது மனவுறுதி என்பதுதான் இங்கு தரித்திரம் என்று குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளதோ என்பது தெரியவில்லை.
