கரத்தின் விரல் மகிமை

முத்தியுள்ள கரத்தின் விரல் மகிமைதன்னை

மோனமுடன் சொல்லுகிறேன் நன்றாய்க் கேளு

பத்தியுள்ள அங்குஷ்டம் பெருவிரலாய் நிற்கும்

பதிவான அடுத்த விரல் தற்சனையாம் மைந்தா

முத்தியுள்ள நடுவிரல்தான் மத்திமையாய் நிற்குந்

திருவான பவுத்திரந்தான் அனாமிகைதான் மைந்தா

சுத்தமுள்ள சுண்டுவிரல் கனுட்டி எனலாகுஞ்

சுகமாக இதையறிந்து முத்திரையைச் செய்யே

Translation:

Speciality of the fingers

The speciality of the fingers

I will say with silence, listen well.

With devotion.  The thumb is ankushtam

The next finger is tharjanai

The middle finger is maddhimai

The next one is anamikai, son

The pure little finger is kanutti.

Knowing these well hold the mudra.

Commentary:

Agattiyar is mentioning the name of each of the fingers in this verse.  The thumb is the ankushtam, the index finger is tharjanai, the middle finger is maddhimai, the ring finger is anamika and the little finger is kanutti.  Knowing the names one should perform the mudra.

இப்பாடலில் அகத்தியர் விரல்களின் பெயர்களை விளக்குகிறார். கட்டைவிரல் அங்குஷ்டம், சுட்டு விரல் தற்சனை, நடுவிரல் மத்திமை, மோதிரவிரல் தர்சனை மற்றும் சிறுவிரல் கனுட்டி என்று அழைக்கப்படுகின்றன.  இதையறிந்து ஒருவர் முத்திரைகளைச் செய்ய வேண்டும் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.
