412. Kevuna mani kuligai

Verse 412

Translation:

Mani kevuna kuligai

Perform worship during end and meeting points
Towards the Parama Kailasa the locus
Knowing the eye, if the self is seen
The dregs, the karma will run away,
Think son, do not forget the self
Knowing the eight remain firmly,
The water that flowed knowing the speed
See the mani kevuna guligai.

Commentary:
Agatthiyar tells Pulathiyar that he should perform the above mentioned worship of Ganapathy (drawing down of amrit) during evenings and junction points.  If one perceives the sahasrara, the Kailasa, then the karma will run away.  Knowing the eight is knowing the akara or the Divine.  If one remains in this state, the water, the bindu will flow with a great force.  This is the mani kevuna kuligai.

Siddhas recommend that the gross semen or bindhu should be processed with the fire of kundalini and it flow reversed from downwards to upwards.  This process is called “madai maarral” or reversal of the flow.  We should remember here that the sushumna is not in the physical body it is in the subtle body.  Thus the energy of the semen is reclaimed by the yogin.  The semen is said to get solidified by this process.  The siddhas call this kevuna mani and say that it confers kevuna siddhi or the mystical accomplishment that lets them travel in space. Again, these methods should be learnt from a guru.

411. Abhisheka to Ganapathy, meijnana poornam state

Verse 411

Translation:
See son, seeing with awareness
Boy! Receiving the bindu amrita rasa
Contemplating on the sathguru
If you perform ablution to Ganapathy, knowing the state
The awareness, that is roaring, Son!
Will remain as meijnana poornam
Attain that state as belonging to you
Perform andhi sandhi puja, with mercy.

Commentary:
This verse talks about the amrit that is received through vaasi yoga.  The amrit that decends from lalata or dvadasantha is usually lost to the surya mandala.  To prevent this, it is collected at the vishuddhi and brought down to muladhara.  Agatthiyar is referring to this process here.  The bindu amrita rasa is the nectar.  It is brought down to muladhara- ablution performed to Ganapathy means this, Then the awareness or conscisouness will remain as meijnana poornam.  The consciousness will not be limited but all pervading.  This is the natural state of the soul.  Knowing this the yogin has to raise his consciousness through muladhara and the intermediate cakras- the andhi, terminus and sandhi, the points of meeting.

409. Chidananda roopam

Verse 409

Translation:
The bliss of awareness will become clear automatically
The self will become the poornam
Do not roam around uselessly, hold on to awareness
The Vedanta and Siddhantha are verily one
The king is the self, see self has Him
Knowing the sign if you know the state
The body will become anandha bodham
The truth, the nirvikarpam.  See it firmly.

Commentary:
The self is the poornam,  It is the bliss of awareness.  Agatthiyar advises Pulatthiyar to hold on to this awareness and tells him that Vedanta and Siddhantha are one. When one realizes that the Lord is none other than the Self then one’s body will be that of aanandha bodham, one will reach the state of bliss awareness chithananda.  Thus one will reach nirvikalpa state, undifferentiated from the Divine.  This nirvikalpa is not nirvikalpa Samadhi.  Samadhi is a state experienced during yoga.  This nirvikalpa is a permanent state, that of being allpervading, being without any distinctions. This is the chidhananda roopam.

408. The soul, the poorna

Verse 408

Translation:
The effulgence, the three flames remaining together
Are glowing in the heart, see well.
When they are perceived knowing the status
All that is seen became jyothi
The Adhi, the jyothi became the mind’s eye
The awareness, the flame, became the soul
The mantra kala recited, becoming the soul
Remains as the truth, the poornam

Commentary:
The supreme state in kundalini yoga is identification with Ultimate Reality.  This is achieved by abiding of all principles in the heart, passing from vikalpa state to nirvikalpa state, disappeareance of limited ego ahamkara and becoming poorna and ultimately dissolving the limited consciousness in the universal consciousness.  In this verse, Agatthiyar explains the state of poorna.  When the triple flames, agni, sun and moon glow within the heart of the yogin everything appears as the flame.  This flame, that of consciousness is the mind’s eye or perception beyond the senses.  It is the awareness, the flame of consciousness, the atma or the soul. It is the mantra kala or the kalaa that raises one to the supreme state.  This is the truth, the poorna.

407. The navel, the ravi and mathi

Verse 407

Translation:
To see over the navel, the world,
A vision that overflows the eye, a very esoteric vision will be seen
Seeing the esoteric vision
The pole, the Meru, in the macrocosm
To adorn it, for the locus in macrocosm to come under control
At Samadhi, the brow middle,
If remained with a firm mind
The kala, the sun and the moon became the flame.

Commentary:
Siddhas recommend shodashakala, a sixteen step process for attaining the supreme state.  The steps- akaara kala, ukara kala, makara kala, bindhu kala, ardha chandra kala and so on start from the navel and end at dvadasantha.  The ravi mentioned in this verse corresponds to the surya and the mathi refers to chandra or moon.  The surya mandala spans the region between the navel and the throat while the chandra mandala spans the space between the throat and brow middle.  The third, the agni mandala spans the region between muladhara and the navel.  The shodasha kala are steps to merge the principles or tattva to attain the supreme state.  These principles manifest as the universe.  Hence, Agatthiyar says, “the world over the navel seen”.  When yogin remains with his mind focused firmly at the navel, the two, surya and chandra mandala the termini of which are the navel and the ajna will glow.

406. Somagiri, suryagiri, ubhayagiri

Verse 406

Translation:
Son, the somagiri is the top terminus
That which makes a man expand (from a seed state) is the suryagiri mula
The breath, ubhayagiri is in the middle
The causality, the moksha, how can I describe it?
The vision, that which is speechless
Listen to me describe it due to the grace of pranava,
Knowing the state and seeing it, it will not go
The truthful state is at the navel.

Commentary:
Agatthiyar explains somagiri and surya giri in this verse.  Somagiri or the peak of the moon is the top terminus.  It is the ajna cakra.  The surya giri is the muladhara.  Man expands into a form from this point.  This is the adhara mulam or origin which is the link between the gross and subtle body.  The breath moves in between these two peaks. The ubhaya giri is manipurakam.  Ubhayam means help.  The breath travels between muladhara and ajna, bringing along with it the prana, the manas and consciousness.  Hence, it is the ubhayagiri. This travel results in the state of liberation which is beyond verbal description.  Agatthiyar says that with the grace of pranava he can describe it.

The word pranavam is interesting.  If we split it as prana+vam then it may mean stabilization of prana in the body with the help of the vakaram or breath, the air component.

The panchakshara mantra namasivaya is assigned to different cakras as follows: na-muladhara, ma-svadhistana, si-manipuraka, va- anahata and ya-vishuddhi.  Thus the manipuraka cakra corresponds to the letter si which also represents the mahakaarana sareera the original state of the soul.  This may be the reason for Agatthiyar saying that the original state is at the navel.

405. Somagiri, suryagiri

Translation:
Yes son, considering the suroopam as poornam
Removing the tattva that rises densly, with the help of awareness
With the help of pranava
Considering other lives like one’s own
We are saying, son, in the house of nadhantha
Seek and see the sacred eyes with the help of the mind
When the sacred eyes are seens consuming the milk of soma
It became soma giri, surya giri, sabham.

Commentary:
Somagiri, suryagiri, udhayagiri, somapaal etc are Siddha paribhasha or esoteric terms.  Agatthiyar describes these in this and the next verse.  He tells us about the attitude of the yogi who perfroms this yoga.  The suroopa he mentioned in the previous verse is considered as the poornam or natural state, the state of consciousness.  The tattva are limiting principles-atma tattva, vidya tattva etc that bring about the feeling of limted existence.  Their influence should be removed.  All lives are considered like one’s own life.  All great souls, Vallalar, Jesus Christ and many others have spoken about this.  From this verse we see that it is an essential step in yoga.  The yogin goes to the house of nadhantha or ajna and with the help of the mind he perceives the sacred eye.  Thiru nayanam means sacred eye as well as the eye that reveals the sacred.  Thus the third eye is this state of perception.  Marking a third eye on Siva’s forehead indicates this state and not the presence of an actual eye!  The somapaal or milk of soma is the divine nectar.  Agatthiyar says that it will become somagiri, suryagiri sabdham.
