397. Pancha gana deekshai

Verse 397

Translation:
Perform son, the pancha gana deeksha margam
Young boy, knowing the locus,
Knowing the space, through vaasi
Going beyond the vedantic triple flame
Consume son, through awareness with the mental eye,
See the definitude of the town where time has ended,
Knowing the eye, seeing the self
See the part of sikaram, without any fault.

Commentary:
We already saw about pancha gana deeksha in verses 201, 202, and 203.  Pancha gana or five entities are siva, sakthi, manas, consciousness and vaasi or breath infused with prana.  Pancha gana deeksha involves these five entities that are the components of the vaasi yogam or kundalini yogam. Pancha gana deeksha is also called vakaara deeksha.  This may be because the primary entity with which vaasi yogam is started are breath and the prana that rides on the breath.  Breath represents the air principle, the vakaara.  That may be the reason for calling vakaara deeksha.

During kundalini yoga, the nadha-sakthi, bindhu-sivam, kala-vaalai, manas and consciousness are merged and taken beyond the sahasrara, to the dvadasantha which is in space.  Thus this spot is beyond the triple flame of agni, surya and chandra that represent the entire human body upto sahasrara.  The divine nectar flows from the dvadasantha.  This is the town beyond time.  The yogin consumes the nectar with awareness and the mind.  This helps him create the mahakaarana sareera, the sikaara.  It grants him the third eye or the awakening of the ajna.

396. Receive the nectar with grace, pray to Thiru

Verse 396

Translation:
The self, madapathi becomes distinct
Merging with the poornam, listen
The universe whose form is that of the sky
The amrita rasa bodham
Due to kon, the grace of guru, receiving it
Merging the sakthi, sivam and andham
Waving the flame of camphor
Perform worship towards the pathi the thiru.

Commentary:
Agatthiyar mentioned in the previous verse that madapathi will end.  Here he says that it will become one with the poornam or consciousness.  Then the divine nectar the bodham will be available in the space, the universe.  This is the dvadasantha.  This nectar is received by guru’s grace.  Sakthi, Sivam and nadha are merged with the flame of camphor or the vaalai which appears as this flame.  Thiru is the supreme state, the ultimate locus, pathi.  This state is called the maha kaarana sareera.  It is called sikaara.

395. Madapathi will end

Verse 395

Translation:
Yes son, I told you akaara siva puja
Knowing it holding the awareness with the help of the mind’s grace
Removing the arrogance, of the I,
The central, reengaara vaalai,
Holding her within as self and praising her,
If you worship as sadaanandha pooranam
Due to the path of the vaamappaal
The madapathi (body) will come to an end by itself.

Commentary:
The components of vaasi yoga are the breath along with prana, the mind and the consciousness.  Agatthiyar is talking about the mind and awareness in this verse.  He says that while doing the akaara puja the mind should hold the awareness, remove the arrogance of I, Me and hold the vaalai who is reenkaara.  Vaalai is kundalini sakthi made up of the above mentioned components.  Vaalai should be contemplatedas Sadananda poornam.  Vaama paal or the milk of vaama is actually the essence of vaama or pranayama.  We already saw about vama puja before.  Due to the vama the “madapathi” or the identification with the body will end.  This is called kaya siddhi.

394. Akaara puja

Translation:
See son, I told you about Om Sakthi puja
Now the akaara or puja of sivam
Knowing the state, the akaara
The sivam became vindhu
Seek son, the vindhu, the saaram (essence) with mercy
During dawn as the poornam
If you remain so and chant it
Lamp at the frontier of Chitambaram

Commentary:
In the previous verse Agatthiyar described the om sakthi puja.  Om sakthi is kundalini.  Omkara is present at the muladhara along with kundalini sakthi.  This is origin of the puja or ascent of kundalini.  Next the akara is present at svadhishtana.  He says that akaara is sivam or consciousness.  It is the bindhu.  It also called saaram or essence.  Kaaram and saaram are two terms that the Siddhas use to describe Sakthi and Sivam.  Agatthiyar tells Pulattiyar to perform chanting of akaara considering sivam as the poornam. Thus, consciousness is the poornam, the state of the soul.  He tells him to perform this worship at dawn.  It is interesting that Siva puja is recommended at dawn and sakthi puja in the evening.  One wonders whether this has any significance with respect to beginning and conclusion of the kundalini yogam.
When this chanting is performed a flame or lamp will be perceived at ajna, the frontier of chithambaram.  This may also be the sahasrara.

393. Benefits of om reeng am

Verse 393
Translation:
Know hear about karpam the awareness
The reengaaram the Origin became Sakthi
The Sakti is also the akaara
Knowing its state, in the evening
As the silence where speech has died
If it is worshiped gloriously
Breath will not stir from its original state
See Om Sakthi Mukthi, the powerful one.

Commentary:
In this verse Agatthiyar says that the mantra is Sakthi.  If one sees this and prays to it in evening then one will reach the state of silence.  The breath with abide or one will attain the state of kumbaka naturally.  This is om sakthi mukthi.

392. Om reeng am in the context of nadha, bindhu and the triple flames

Verse 392

Translation:
The reengaaram became the nadha
The merciful akaaram became bindhu
The omkaaram became vaasi
See this with intellect within using your mind
When you see so with your mind
It became the ravi, mathi and the flame.
Seeing the three flame within
It became the karpam indescribable silence.

Commentary:
In the previous verses Agatthiyar explained om reeng am as the three parts of pranayama and as siva, sakthi and peeta.  Here he is explaining it in the context of nadha and bindhu, the precursors of this manifested world.  He mentions that reeng or reengkaara is nadha, am or akara is bindhu and omkaara is vaasi or the prana, breath complex.  When one understands this carefully one will see that these three are actually the ravi (sun), mathi (moon) and flame (fire).  When one perceives these within, then one reaches the state of silence which is the karpam or the medicinal preparation that cause liberation.

391. Om reeng am and pranayama

Verse 391

Translation:
See son, the part of siva yogam
The reeng means poorakam
The am is kumbakam
Knowing the status, placing love,
Associate with it, if you perform om during rechakam
The vaasi will abide as if even the chaff will not stir
The vaasi will abide in the house
Go there and see the bottom, middle and top.

Commentary:
Agatthiyar mentioned the mantra om reeng am in a previous verse.  He explaining it significance here.  In the previous verse he said reeng is vaalai, am is Siva who emerges as vaasi from the peeta om.  In this verse he says that reeng is inhalation or poorakam. Am is kumbakam and om is rechakam or exhalation.  Thus, om reeng am represents the three steps in pranayama.  When this mantra is uttered the vaasi or the breath and prana will abide.  It will to such an extent that it is as if not even the bran will move.  Bran is a very fine powder that covers rice.  It moves even with a slight wind.  Saying that even the bran will not means there is absolute stillness in vaasi. The adi, mudi, nadu or the bottom, top and middle mean the muladhara, vishuddhi and sahasrara.
