358. She is the saguna and nirguna Brahman

Verse 358

Translation:
Becoming the mother and the mula ganapathy
As the cool Brahma and Maal
As the fire, the Rudra and Maheswara
Siva sivaa, as Sadasiva and Mani (Manonmani)
As the never quenched triple flame, as the light
As the entity that remains without anything, as Self
As the mantra recited
As the effulgence where all the mantra abide.

Commentary:
Agatthiyar is concluding his eulogy of Sakthi with this verse.  After saying that she is all the mantra he says that she is the mother and all the deities, Mulaganapathy, Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra, Maheswari, Sadasiva.  She is also Manonmani, the triple flames, the supreme effulgence and the nirguna brahman who cannot be defined by a specific quality.  She is the mantra and the effulgence where all the mantra abide.

357. Sakthi in the context of mantra

Verse 357

Translation:
As the letters of aam, the eight
As the nava graha and deeksha
As the deeksha of om, as that which remained as the soul
The form/embodiment of omkara reenkara
As na and ma of naam
The good siv, vav and yav
As the ai, kili
As the sav of all the souls, the mother who remained so.

Commentary:
The six letters that Agatthiyar mentioned in the previous verse may be om (in its singular state) namasivaya.  He says that this is none other than Sakthi.  The expanded form of omkara is namasivaya.  Thus om namasivaya represents the nirguna and saguna Brahman remaining together.
Sakthi is also the eight letters of aim, kleem, sau, namasivaya.  This mantra includes the sakthi bheeja-aim, kleem, sau and siva bhija namasivaya.
Sakthi is also the embodiment of om reeng. As Agatthiyar has mentioned reeng along with om it makes one wonder if it is hreem.  This is the equivalent of om for sakthi.  It represents her creative power.
The navagraha mentioned in this verses throws open an interesting connotation due to its context.  Navagraha is used generally to refer to the nine planets.  The word graha also means house.  Thus navagraha may mean nine houses or new house.  In his work Devi chakaram Agatthiyar calls the lines that constitute the basic nine trianges as those of the planets.  Thus the planets, these lines, create nine house that give rise to 43 total triangles.  Nava aavarana or enclosures with their own set of presiding deities is also known in Srividya the preceptor of which is Agatthiyar.  Thus, the navagraha that Agatthiyar has mentioned in this verse may mean anyone of these. Sricakra is a diagrammatic representation of the macro and microcosm.  Hence, Agatthiyar calls it as subtlety.

356. She is one, two, three, four, five, six and seven.

Verse 356

Translation:
Becoming the eye, the witness filling the eye
As the merciful flame of camphor
As the incomparable sakti and sivam, the duality
As the sun, moon and flame- the three kala,
As the sky, the four Vedas
As the five pancha kartha (effectors)
As the six letters
As the seven types of life forms that can attain mukti.

Commentary:
Sakthi is the eye or the consciousness which makes everything known.  She is also the witness who experiences that knowledge.  She is the smoky flame experienced at the ajna.  She is the singularity as well as the duality of sakthi and sivam.  she is the triple flame of sun, moon and flame.  She is the four Veda, the emanation from nadha.  She is the five effectors- Sadasiva, Maheswara, Rudra, Vishnu and Brahma.  She is the six letters that Agatthiyar is explaining in the next verse.  She is also the seven types of lifeforms- the crawlers, flyers, animals, plants, celestials, humans and those that live in water.

355. She is Manonmani

Verse 355

Translation:
As mother, as the adhara mula (muladhara)
As that which hides the self and the space, as Self
As fire, air and sky
As action, as earth and body/injury
As mouth, as eye, as nose
As the air which fills the sky and as touch sensation
As the child, as auspiciousness as wealth
Devi Manonmani!  My Dear!, Oh!

Commentary:
Agatthiyar is praising Sakthi in the context of kundalini yogam.  Sakthi is the mother who remains in the muladhara.  She is the maya that conceals the self and the space.  She is also the self.  She is the five elements, the sense organs and their subtle qualities.  She is the auspiciousness.  She is manonmani, the supreme state beyond the mind.

354. She is big and small, she is eight and four

Verse 354

Translation:
As the sign/indication as the image of Vedanta
As quality, as the mind, going beyond there
As the path/discipline, as the subtlety of origin and terminus
As the regulated lifeforce, the sacred vaasi
As big and small and as Jiva
As the prana of jiva, as the clarity
As the four along with eight
As the great effulgence, as the small effulgence, the mother who stood so.

Commentary:
“kuri” or sign is lingam or identity.  She is the kuri or the supreme state.  She is the scene that Vedanta unfolds.  She is the embodiment of the teachings of Vedanta.  She is the quality, and the mind that perceives the qualities.  She is also beyond the quality and the mind, she is the discipline, the path.  She is the origin terminus- the Supreme subtlety.  She is the life force which when regulated becomes the sacred life force or Thiruvaasi.  She is the smallest of the small and biggest of the big- anoraneeyaan mahatho maheeyaan.  She is the Jiva and the prana.  She is the clarity or supreme awareness.  The eight and four may be the two types of states that constitute the dvadasa kala.  The eight are the gross states while the four are subtle states.
She is the great effulgence- the Supreme and the small effulgence- the jiva.  She is thus the limited consciousness as well as supreme consciousness.  She is the mother.

Translation:
As fully complete, as the causality as intellect
As going away and coming back, as the praise worthy
Causality everywhere, as quality free, as mercy
As the space not contained by the eye, as the thought
As plantain, as that and this
After attaining- becoming free of that and this
As the threshold, as the first letter/locus of the universe
As the word, as the sign, the state of remaining so.

Commentary:
Sakthi is the poorna one replete in all respects.  She is the cause for everything.  She is the buddhi or intellect which reveals everything.  She the gunapoorani as well as nirguni- one displaying all the qualities as well as the one who remains as the locus where everything remains merged without distinction.  She is the one unlimited by sensual (inner as well as outer) perceptions.  She is beyond the perception of the eye, or the mind. She is the plaintain- the kundalini,  She is the current state of the soul as well as the state that it reaches ultimately.  That is, she is tat as well as tvam.  She is also the asi, the threshold crossing which the tvam becomes tat so that there is no distinction as tat and tvam.  She is the first space or veLi.  She is also the first letter, the expression of nadha.  She is the word that is born from nadha as well as the sign- an object is referred to by its name or its sign.  Sakthi is both, the word and the sign.
